Health insurance

Medical Aid, without the babble.

Comprehensive medical scheme cover for you and your family.

Medical aid covers your hospital bills, doctors and chronic medication so a health crisis doesn't become a financial one. But with dozens of schemes and hundreds of plan options in South Africa, choosing the right one is genuinely confusing — and the wrong choice can cost you dearly when you need to claim.

Ample cuts through the noise. We compare medical schemes — Discovery Health, Momentum, Bonitas, Fedhealth and others — against your health needs and budget, and explain the trade-offs in plain language so you choose with confidence.

Medical Aid FAQs

What's the difference between medical aid and health insurance?

Medical aid is a regulated scheme that covers actual medical costs (especially hospital) and must cover Prescribed Minimum Benefits. Health insurance pays fixed cash amounts for defined events and is usually cheaper but more limited. We'll explain which suits you.

Can you help me choose between schemes?

Yes — that's exactly what we do. We compare schemes and plans against your health needs, doctors, medication and budget, and recommend the best fit rather than just one provider's product.

What are Prescribed Minimum Benefits (PMBs)?

By law, every medical aid must cover diagnosis, treatment and care for a defined list of around 270 conditions and emergencies, regardless of your plan. We make sure you understand what's guaranteed.

Does it cost more to use a broker?

No. Medical scheme contributions are the same whether you join directly or through an accredited broker like Ample. The difference is you get independent advice and ongoing support at no extra cost.

This page is general information, not financial advice. Cover varies by policy and provider — your dedicated Ample broker tailors it to your needs.
